My name is Wen Sen, or you can call me Vincent. I’m a freelance photographer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My name “Wen Sen” is something I treasure a lot because it gives me a sense of identity and uniqueness. It gives me a feeling of assurance that I was born for a purpose.
While I was in my teens, I always envied people who are talented and gifted. I grew up just wanting to be like them – a geeky computer expert, a rock drummer, a singer, a basketball player, a badminton player… you name it! As I matured into my youth, I came to realisation that each individual has their own distinctiveness. I was made to be an original, no point being a copy.
During my secondary school days back in 2005, I was a part of my school’s computer club. One of my tasks was to photograph school events for the school’s website. As the school photographer then, I shot in almost every school event using a fully automatic compact camera that was provided. Sometimes, the camera would have smoke puffing out of the flash! I kept shooting while worrying when it would burn my hands off! Those were the days…
2 years later, I discovered that I have a great passion for photography and this is where my talent is! I longed to nurture this love because doing something that I love not only propels me to be good at it, but also to be the best that I can be! So, I begged my parents for almost half a year to buy me a DSLR. They finally bought me one and I was overjoyed, promising to make full use of it.
I attended Louis Pang (Malaysia’s most renown wedding and portrait photographer) intermediate photography workshop in 2008 and was inspired to the brim. With the equipment and knowledge that I gained, I managed to win a consolation prize in Sunway Photography Contest 2008 with 5 other shortlisted entries. In 2010, I won the second place in Nescafe Kickstart 2010 photojournalism’s category.
Through the years, I have learned to create photos instead of taking them. I always shoot with my heart and soul, injecting my love and passion into my photography works. My portfolios depict my love for them.
