Our lives today are so dependant on media and technology. When the lights went out twice yesterday in my neighbourhood, call it black out if you like, I wondered what could I do that doesn’t need a computer. Ironically, I turned to technology for help. I grabbed my camera and headed out to the Taman Connaught bridges to shoot some photos. I call this series “A Portrait of Connaught” because Taman Connaught is clearly identifiable by its highway and also its high-tension cable towers.

Andrew and Angelina Couple Portrait Session

Just 3 days before the Bersih rally was held, I was at Dataran Merdeka and its vicinity. No, I was not there to protest, but I was having the time of my life shooting a couple portrait of Andrew and Angelina.

Minimal police and DBKL personnel presence were felt; and a mere 20 plus people (protestors/ journalist/ bystanders, i have no idea) were hanging around that Dataran Merdeka fountain area on that early morning. Well, I was glad that no protest was taking place then or we had to postpone our shoot or bring our shoot to another location. But, most of all, I just wanted my clients to have a good time and have fun. I believe they did! [Smiles]

Andrew and Angelina are both from Brunei. That is where they got to know each other. This couple is SUPER IN LOVE! That surely takes a lot of commitment. I salute them for that.

I got to know Angelina a few years back when we were attending the same CG (cell group) of our church. As of Andrew, we communicated through email, and it was only the day of the shoot that I managed to meet him for the first time. This young HOT couple are so loving and passionate, and that makes it a real privilege for me to preserve their memories for them.

LOVE is in the air!

A lot of my favourite photos are from this shoot. I think Andrew and Angelina’s passionate vibe really affected me to work harder for them on the shoot. HUURAY to that!

When Memories Flood Back

Tired of sitting in front of the computer clicking the mouse, rushing for assignment datelines, I paused for a moment. I pondered, it’s been long since I took a look at my childhood photo album. In fact I think it’s been years. Everything has been digital now, so can’t blame myself to forget looking at photos taken with films. Hehe..

I went through the many albums. Seeing my cute little self with my loved ones brings nostalgia. Flipping through the pages, I cried; I laughed; I reminised.

Growing up with a sister 7 years older than me, I used to quarrel a lot with her when I was little. (which I’m sure all siblings do! :P) Not sure because I plainly wanted the attention or we just had the communication gap problem. We do have a lot of fun moments though.

But being more matured now, I say she’s the best sister in the world! We are the “best-est” of friends too! She keeps my secrets and I keep hers. Shh… Now, don’t go find her just to find out about who i secretly admire! ^^ Hahaha..

And looking at other photos really brings back a whole gamut of emotions.

I guess it is through the busyness, tiredness and the point of giving up, we find the true meaning and appreciation of life. At the end, family, relationship and happiness matters most, nothing else. When they are not valued, life collapses. And probably, that’s the only reason why we do what we do in life. For a happier and better future.

So taking a break could not be that bad, I revitalized my soul. =) I hope you do too! Happy weekend.

Shooting SWAT

When I was a kid, I loved watching action police shows and cartoons. I even wrote in my essays in primary school that my ambition is to be a cop. Heh. Impossible dream. Fast forward to today, I’m still hooked to police shows like 24, Nikita and Criminal Minds etc. So when I learned that my friend Mark is in a cosplay (costume play) SWAT team, I knew one day I had to photo shoot some SWATs to satisfy my urge.

So today was the day. All thanks to Mark, Nick, Aaron and Jack for making this shoot possible. This is probably the closest “SWAT” that I can photoshoot. :) Wickedly fun!

*Kids, do try this at home. They are fake guns, not real guns.

When I’m Stuck Beside the Highway

Just last Saturday my friends and I had a 2 days trip to Melaka. Half way there, our bus broke down and the driver tried numerous times restarting it. Miraculously it worked… until just few kilometres before the Ayer Keroh rest stop, the bus broke down again for the second time. This time was pretty bad.

Some mechanics were called it to fix the issues and we had to wait beside the highway for more than 5 hours: we sat beside the road, and later in the hot and stuffy bus. Luckily, I brought my flash along this trip as I get to kill some time and have fun doing some portraits. A totally impromptu and unplanned shoot.

Open Up Video

In one of my past few posts, I’ve mentioned my involvement in a video contest/ festival called Plural Plus. If you have not read it, you can read it here: http://www.wensenphoto.com/blog/2011/09/03/openupbts/

Unfortunately, we only managed to get shortlisted and didn’t win any awards for it. Oh well…

But through the video production process, we had a lot of fun as a team and with the interviewees. The main idea was to create an interview video which is fun and engaging. Something that won’t bore viewers.

A big thank you to everyone who was involved although some interviewees may not appear in the video as we have edited it to suit the storytelling.

Some descriptions:

The Curious Five (Isaac Tan, Wen Sen, Shu Jing, Carmen Lee and YaXi) shot a video interview entitiled “Open Up” for Plural Plus Video Festival 2011. The theme that was in focus was migration and diversity.

Our video submission is titled “Open Up”, which is a double entendre. On the surface, we want the judges to open up the video, open up their mind, to view what youths have to convey in our video. On a deeper note, we want people to be open minded about international issues regarding migration and diversity.

More than 20 students from different parts of the world in UCSI University were interviewed for the video. A big thank you to them!

Jayesslee at City Harvest Church Kuala Lumpur

This Sunday is a day me and my friends have been long awaiting. Jayesslee finally performed at CHCKL!!! :) Woot!

Jayesslee stands for Janice and Sonia Lee, who are the bubbly and talented Aussie twins that are huge Youtube sensation because of their amazing voices. I’m quite a fan of them since a few months ago.

Recently when I feel down and lonely, I’ll play their music videos to boost my spirit up. You know, they are so blessed with this angelic voice and positive vibe that I wanted so badly to hear them “live”. Thankfully, they came to my church and I could save some concert ticket money for other use. :)

Janice and Sonia sharing their life stories. Their success stories are so inspirational. It made me believe again that a commoner, a nobody could be a somebody with just a little faith in God.

I’ve uploaded some of their awesome performances today so that you can be blessed by thier singing too. It will take some time to load, but it’s worth the wait!

And after service, we had the chance to have a photograph and autograph session with Jayesslee. The queue was super long, easily hundreds/ thousands queued up. Looking at the crowd, I didn’t felt like queueing. After thinking for a while. Heck, I’ve not queued for an autograph before! Why not right? Plus, if I don’t I’ll definitely be jealous of my friends who got those autographs and photos. Oh yes, I’m a little kiasu….. :P

Btw, they only allowed the official photographer to take our photo, so hopefully we’ll get them soon and I’ll be able to upload my photo with Jayesslee here!

I managed to get me water bottle autographed by both Janice and Sonia! I think I’ll placed it on my computer desk as a decor instead of using it as a water bottle so that their autographs don’t get washed off.

Commercial Packaging Factory and Product Shoot

I’ve just completed a shoot for a foil packaging factory. Glad to be able to work with the factory owners who are great and open-minded about suggestion and ideas throughout the entire process. Lucky me, I also managed to hear stories from the owner about the factory’s humble beginning many years ago firsthand.
